Finding Nana

For as long as she can remember, Nana’s house has always been Ellie’s special place.

But now Mum says Nana needs to move… into a Care Home.

Ellie needs answers. Will Nana like it? Why does she have to go? And… what is a Care Home anyway?

Finding Nana is a beautifully illustrated, fictional story following Ellie and Jack as they discover what happens when Nana moves into a very special Care Home.

Visiting new places to see familiar people can sometimes be a bit scary.

But Finding Nana offers a heartfelt and honest story about loss, being real about your fears and the triumph of love when finding a special someone in a strange place.

What people are saying

“I have read many books about care homes for children over the years but I have to say this is the best.”

David Moore, Dementia Lead Specialist, MHA

“The best of care and support shines through this story. Through the children, we discover that care homes enable people to contribute to their community, maintain their closest relationships, and develop new friendships.”

Anna Dixon MBE, Chair of the Archbishops’ Commission on Reimagining Care and author of The Age of Ageing Better

About Jenni Bacon

Jenni makes a living by writing things down, finding things out and solving problems to help organisations do good in the world. She volunteers in schools and with Scouts and she’s learning how to be a forest school teacher too.

Whatever else she’s doing, Jenni is always a full-time wife, mum, daughter, sister & friend. She tries to be a good listener.

She wrote this book in memory of her Nanny & Grandad by listening as much as she could to the thoughts and feelings of those who live and work in MHA care homes.

Finding Nana is Jenni’s first book, written for MHA, the UK’s largest charity care provider. It is illustrated by her friend Sophie Parmenter, an artist whose love and knowledge of plants added beautiful sensory detail to the book.
